The heater works fine and the fuel mileage is the same. Temp gauge runs bit lower than half no matter how fast I run. I finally bought a new radiator, $54.00 shipped off the net, then put a 180 degree thermostat. I have had experiences with aluminum engines in marine settings running near 200 degrees and blowing head gaskets at regular intervals. I got a non contact thermometer and started monitoring the thermostat housing to gain a reference to where the position on the dash gauge was reading. My 91 Vert Automatic would run high in city driving, then around 70 mph even higher. There seems to be an inordinate amount of members blowing head gaskets. I have always been concerned about how HOT these aluminum heads are pushed. This forum has already been a great help and I'm so stoked to have my first Geo Metro. Could someone show a link to one on eBay that has the air hole and would work for a 1991 geo metro? Would it be worth "burping" the system by running the car with the radiator cap off?ģ. What is the workflow you would take to fixing/diagnosing the problem?Ģ. I've also read that maybe it's time to replace the radiator even if it doesn't have a crack.ġ. I also read that the thermostat would be a good place to start but that it needs to have an air hole (could someone show a link to one on eBay that has the air hole and would work for a 1991 geo metro). I've been reading past posts about possible clogged radiator but I thought if the previous owner flushed it, that may not be the problem. Supposedly, the previous owner had flushed the coolant.

It hasn't redlined but it's about 3/4 on the temp gauge still after freeway driving and a few hills. It's still running warmer than any car I've owned. I filled the reservoir with coolant and it hasn't dropped in the past day and a half (at least, not a noticeable amount). The radiator had fluid to the top though. I checked the radiator fluid and it was near empty. Car is running great but I noticed it was running about 3/4 on the temp gauge on the way back from Pick n Pull. Hey there, I just recently bought a Geo Metro 1991 LSi 4 door hatchback the other week.
