It’s rough, making the first film, all the pressure that mounts and mounts as you get closer to shooting. I would give less of a fuck about pissing people off or being politically incorrect.

Krantz (2016): If I could make this film again, I would probably shoot a lot more fucking. NFS: Now that you've had time to absorb your own first film, what are some of the "blemishes" you see? I feel like that's a genre of its own  the messiness of it is what makes a first film interesting. I love the blemishes. The mistakes are all a part of it and I tried-maybe too much-to embrace that. NFS: First films are interesting because you're seeing people work through their ability to balance idealism and pragmatism in real-time. "It takes strength to withstand the backlash and the questions of the cast and crew when you want to do something subversive or disgusting or divisive." My mom was going through a crazy divorce, I was 13, and we had an orphan babysitter living with us. It took several months and until we played at the Deauville Film Festival, watching it with a bunch of foreigners, that I saw that this was about an experience. I would imagine that in the interview we did at SXSW I was not very upfront about it. I was really hiding that fact, even from myself. Krantz (2016): It's weird when I made the movie, I didn't know that it was about me. I realized that I just wanted to do something that was simple and honest and emotionally engaging. I was really disappointed with this script and I had abandoned it, and I went on this really depressed hike.

It was too much of an intellectual approach. I was in the middle of another script that I had spent a year on and I finally realized that it was really bad. One of my biggest fears is that I would make some kind of self-indulgent diary entry. The hardest character to write was the protagonist, the kid.

I love those surprises and there's a couple of big surprises left for the third one.Krantz (2015): The characters are combinations of real people, versus based on any one person. I love the surprises from the second movie, I love that Melanie is the bad guy - I like to flip a card at the end of the first act and, whoops, it's Melanie! In the third act, I flip another card, that it was all under control by Bee and Bee was Phoebe's original babysitter and she's the one that sold her soul for good purposes whereas all the other kids, as a reflection of social media and its influence, sold their souls for lightweight purposes. And I would would love to because I would love to conclude the arc of the Cole character. We have the story and I firmly put it in the hands of the audience: If the audience wants it, they'll see it and we'll do it and, if they say "No, I don't like this" then we won't. McG adds that he loved creating the twists in the second movie, and that's he's got some more lined up for a potential trilogy-ender. Saying that if The Babysitter: Killer Queen is successful enough to get another sequel greenlit, he wants to "conclude" Cole's narrative arc.
